How Smooth Cars fares are calculated, what the surcharges are, and what happens if you cancel.
We publish the price of every fixed route, and for everything else we tell you the price on the phone before the journey is booked - never after it.
How a fare is worked out
Every fare starts with a base charge for the vehicle class, then adds a per-mile rate that falls as the journey gets longer. Short journeys are subject to a minimum fare. Airport transfers on our published routes are a fixed price instead, whatever the traffic does.
When a journey costs more
Night journeys between 11pm and 6am carry a 25% surcharge. Weekends carry 10%. Christmas Eve to New Year's Day carries 50%. Airport pickups include a 5.00 fee that covers the airport's own charge for entering the pickup area. Additional stops are 4.00 each, and waiting beyond ten minutes is charged by the minute.
Every one of these appears as its own line on your quote before you pay. There is no category of charge that only shows up at the end.
Cancellations
Cancel more than two hours before your pickup and there is no charge. Inside two hours, half the fare. If the car arrives and nobody is there, the full fare. If we cancel on you, you pay nothing.
