Three separate licences sit behind a legal private hire journey in Bristol, and they are often confused with each other.
The operator licence
Held by the company that takes your booking. It is what makes it lawful for us to accept a pre-booked journey at all. Ours is displayed in the footer of this site.
The driver licence
Held by the individual driving. It requires a DBS check, a medical, and a knowledge and safeguarding assessment. It is renewed on a fixed cycle and lapses on a specific date.
The vehicle licence
The plate on the car. It requires an inspection, valid hire-and-reward insurance and a current MOT.
Why all three matter
If any one has lapsed, the journey is not insured. Our dispatch system checks all three expiry dates before a driver can be assigned to a job, and refuses the assignment if any has passed. It is not a reminder - it is a block.
